This message is for the Remnant of God that are not swept away by every wind of doctrine. It may offend those who are not true disciples of Jesus Christ.
We are all aware that in these days, those who keep the commandments and word of Jesus Christ will increasingly come under persecution. We know that Jesus promised us that we would be “hated of all men for my name’s sake” so we understand if we are unpopular at times.
We know our adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour so we are called to be sober and vigilant. Nevertheless, we have perils that Jesus described coming, not from without … but from within the house of the Lord.
We were warned that our adversary would use those closest to us to betray and destroy the household of faith. It is a devastating and demoralizing method of combat that was used even on Messiah. We must remember that he was betrayed by one of his own disciples.
In the same way we all must remain sober and vigilant because our adversary is looking for ways to undermine your shield of faith. He is hoping that you will be weakened by the flood of betrayal that he will unleash throughout the body of Christ.
What Betrayal Is Prophesied?
We know that anyone who lives a godly life in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution. This is a sober reality of the state of human affairs on planet Earth. We are all warned as believers that the world hates HIM and so they will hate us for his name’s sake.
What we tend to underestimate is the tactics the enemy is using and has used since the early days of the church. From the beginning there have been constant and steady attempts to undermine the gospel with false doctrine, false prophets, false apostles, and compromise of the message.
The greatest betrayal is not from without but within the ranks of those whom we expect to strengthen our walk and encourage us through the narrow way. Those who we esteem as true but shall show themselves to be false.
2 Thessalonians 2:3 “Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition…”
Paul clearly warns the last days church that men would deceive or conceal their true selves. He warns of a great “falling away” and exposure of the man of sin.
So often modern day disciples think this is only one man but we must soberly remember that there are many antichrists in the world.
The Greek word that Paul uses for “falling away” is apostasia which means a falling away or defection. Simply put … it is the great betrayal.
Those who were once counted as among the redeemed and disciples of the LORD will defect and betray HIM and those who serve him to preserve their own lives.
The Flood Of Betrayal
This mass defection and is already manifesting but is not what people expected which makes the strategy more effective and deadly.
You see, if someone outright denounces Jesus Christ publicly then we would grieve for them but we would then know where they stand and we would know that they have defected from the faith.
Imagine if a popular pastor you love and follow suddenly declared that he no longer follows Jesus Christ. What would happen to his ministry? We all know that it would disintegrate into nothing.
So how would this pastor conceal his defection? The sober reality is they would very subtly change doctrine. They would no longer preach the message of the cross, repentance, and salvation from sin and death.
Instead they would substitute a different gospel message.
2 Timothy 4:3-5 “For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; and they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables. But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry.”
Paul instructs Timothy to make full proof of authentic ministry, by encouraging faithfulness and endurance, not popularity. This is in sober contrast to the way of the apostate.
Having once known the suffering of Messiah and endured the affliction of the true disciple, these betrayers have sold their place in the eternal kingdom for the sake of temporal benefit.
This is exactly what Judas did when he betrayed Jesus. He sold out the Messiah for 30 pieces of silver because what he wanted was immediate benefits, comfort, prosperity, prestige, power, and popularity. He is the son of perdition and there are more of them.
We are told that Satan entered into Judas and that it was his tactic to betray Jesus and in so doing undermine and sabotage the work of Messiah. The Devil had tried to attack Jesus directly but it didn’t work. Now he used a more devious method.
While we know that Jesus defeated the Devil called Satan in the resurrection, the tactic of betrayal and sabotage continues to be used to this day.
When the Bible predicts that the Dragon was angry with the saints and sent out a flood to persecute the saints, what you didn’t know is that this flood is not a literal wall of water. It is not an army in the sense that we perceive it.
Instead it was more subtle and deadly. He raised up an army … of Betrayers. Those who would become prominent, popular, and pour a FLOOD of false doctrine, lying signs and wonders, and another message of salvation that the fathers neither knew nor preached.
Large crowds of people are cheering, supporting, and following apostate doctrines because it promises the lie of the garden. Penalty free living like “gods” without the message of confession, repentance, obedience, and faithfulness.
This false gospel has come in like a flood using words like “grace” and “prosperity” and “emergent church” and “seeker sensitive” as platitudes of appeasement to the redeemed. This deception is so powerful it has fooled even the very elect.
Many who read this will become angry and even hostile because the implication is that one of their “favorite” ministers may not be preaching sound doctrine. Nevertheless, we must be sober and count the costs of the office to which we are called.
The household of faith has been deceived by a flood of the enemy’s infiltrators and the work they have done to undermine the commandments of the LORD have all but sealed the fate of millions of people who have been deceived.
Revelation 12:17 “And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.”
Now, more than ever, let us be a sober people that keep HIS word and minister the truth that sets people free from Sin and Death. Let us share the message of Hope, Salvation, Redemption, Repentance, Revival, and ultimately … Resurrection!
